WHO Region: South-East Asia region
World Bank Income Group:  Lower-middle-income country
Gavi Co-financing Status: Fully self-financing

Immunization System Highlights:

  • The Indonesian Ministry of Health procures vaccines directly from the state-owned corporation Bio Pharma. Prices paid are comparable to Gavi and UNICEF prices, with some exceptions.
  • Financing for immunization service delivery is largely decentralized to districts. This decentralization poses a significant risk to sustainability of the immunization program due to weakness in subnational capacity and commitment to immunization.
  • Prioritization of health is low compared to peers, at just 2% of central government expenditures, and nearly half of districts spend less than the mandated 10%.
